Jaba Samushia Opens Scientific Conference Dedicated to 70th Anniversary of Professor Alexandre Kukhianidze

 

The Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia opened the scientific conference dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Professor Alexandre Kukhianidze.

Rector Jaba Samushia spoke about the contribution of Alexandre Kukhianidze to the development of the field of political science. He said that many people are familiar with his scientific work, he was one of the first to introduce political science as a scientific direction in the country. “He made a significant contribution to the development of political science education at our university. Initially, work on textbooks began with his participation,” Rector Jaba Samushia noted. On the initiative of the Rector, the university will publish a collection dedicated to the 70th anniversary, which will include scientific articles by both Georgian and foreign specialists, as well as Kukhianidze’s works.

Salome Dundua, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Tbilisi State University, noted that the topic Alexandre Kukhianidze worked on was chosen for the scientific conference. “He has done many good things for the faculty and has trained many students. I hope that he will serve our young people for many more years,” said Salome Dundua. Professor Alexandre Kukhianidze thanked the guests for their participation in the conference and read the report “Democracy and the Criminal State.”

The scientific conference “Democratization and Security against Corruption and Transnational Organized Crime” was organized by the Scientific Research and Development Service and the Political Science Department of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

The conference was attended by researchers and professors working on this topic, as well as BA and MA students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. The conference papers will be peer-reviewed and published as a collection.

Professor Louise Shelley, Founder and Director of the Center for Terrorism, Transnational Crime and Corruption (George Mason University, USA) presented a report on “The Global Rise of Corruption and Transnational Crime.”
